Rolling Out the Beginning of the Year in Phases

The beginning of the year is very stressful now matter what type of summer you had. Most of us have been away from our daily routines we had hard-wired into our brains for at least 6 weeks. Coming back can be akin to taking a polar plunge on an already frigid day, especially when you receive a barrage of emails, tight deadlines, and “Need-To-Do-Now items.

During the first week of school as overwhelm was settling into my spirit, I took some time to reflect and myself: Do I really need to do everything all at once? This may seem like a benign question, but many of us feel torn with the sheer volume of requests. I also noticed that most administrators work in the summer, so this “busyness” is their regular cadence. This initial question was liberating, and help me to about face. The consequent approach has been helping me to reintroduce school routines, etc into my regular diet.
